Words Into Action 2008-2009 |
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten class is going to visit the residents of the Melita and Area Personal CAre Home during the school year. The residents will also be invited to make a return visit during the eyar. Mrs GIlson and Leah Stovin are going to assist the residents and students to prepare for each visit and to help everyone develop a lasting friendship.
Grade One
Grade One will be making Thanksgiving centerpieces for the Personal Care Home in October. In the month of November, students will be making decorations for the Legion Remembrance Day Luncheon. In the month of December, students will make Christmas cards fo the Health Sciences Center Children's Ward --------------------------------- ( finish)
Grade Two
The Grade Two class will be setting up a Mitten Tree. The studetns will be making posters to advertise a mitten drive to collect mittens for distribution fo families needing warm winter clothing. The mittens will be on a tree in the front entrance. At a special assembly they will be preseented to Chritsmas Cheer Board.
Grade Three
The Grade Three class will be going to the Melita Lodge once a month until the end of May. We will be reading, playing games, perfomring and doing crafts with the residents. We arelooking forward to each visit with our new friends.
Grade Four
In the fall we will go to Centre Park to clean up the Kid's Flower bed. In the spring we will help plant the flower bed. Both are in conjunction with Communities in Bloom. We will clean up garbage on the school grounds throughout the school year, and clean up Centre Park for the Town - Wide clean up in spring.
Grade Five
Trick or Treat for Unicef - Holding a bake table at the craft Sale on October 18. Holding a Halloween fun day for the K-6. All funds to Unicef. We will also be helping the nursery school children four times throughout the year We have to organize two activities to do within an hour.
Grade Six
Our class is participating in the TABS FOR WHEELCHAIRS program. This program purchases new specialized wheel chairs desined to meet unique needs. The next reipeient is Ian. He injoys plyaing Power Wheelchair Hockey and Sledge Hockey. He would love to have a sport wheelchair.

Grade 7
Our class volunteered to help with the Evening of Recoginition on Sept. 25th. The students volunteered for individual committees.
Grade 8
We are sponsoring a child through World Vision from November to June. We plan to do fund-raising to achieve our financial committment, and our first event is a pancake breakfast.

We are going to attend the Lions' Governor Meeting to learn all about the Lions club and service clubs in general. We are then going to work with the Lion's Club in a joint effort. One of our projects will be to do some painting in Morrow's Park.

We are joing forces with the SY Student Council to carry out, plan and fundraise for a "BRAVE THE SHAVE/LOCKS OF LOVE/PINK HIGHLIGHTS campaign for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society - watch for us this coming spring!!!

We will deliver congragate meals for two months ( November and April)

To participate in teh twon wide garage sale in June by having items dontaed fromthe community. After the sale the group will donate the proceeds to a worth while project.

Our group is going to help the Melita Community Pantry in collecting and distributing food to those who need it.
