Criteria: Presented to a deserving graduate entering the fields of science, engineering or

trades.

 

Deanna Johnson MemorialTrophy and Bursary

Criteria: A graduatingstudent who will be continuing his/her education. This student must be a determined and hardworker, demonstrated through a strong academic background. The student must show characteristics of warmth. Friendliness and readership qualities in and out of the classroom as well as on the playing field. Athletic participation in a team or Intramurals should also be considered. The Grad Class of 1992 donatesthis Bursary.

 

Glenwood Masonic Bursary

Criteria: Graduating student furthering their education at a post-secondary institute for at least one year after completing graduation requirements. Students must have demonstrated satisfactory academic performance. Financial assistance may be the deciding factor as well as length and cost of program.

 

Pembina Consumers CO-OP Ltd.Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a student planning on enrolling in a journeyman program for carpentry, plumbing or electrical vocations.
Additional Info: The board has recognized that students selecting these vocations generally have limited opportunities for scholarships to assist them with their studies. If there are no graduating students that are planning on enrolling in college in either of these trades no scholarships will be presented.

 

Paul and Margaret Wright FamilyScholarship

Criteria: Students must bepursuing post-secondary studies, have a reasonable academic
standing, community andschool involvement volunteer services, element of financial need a consideration and interest and aptitude in business courses.
Comments:  This award will be given for up to 3years of post-secondary of post secondary studies.  (The award must be used in the year it is given.)

Criteria: Graduating student who has contributed to the education of others throughout
his/her senior years.

Minnie Buckley MemorialBursary

Criteria: Graduating student from Hartney/Souris who is intending to study music at university.
Comments: In a year where there is no graduate, one or two annual award in any amount
equal to the lesser of :Tuition fee of 50% of the net annual income to a student(s) attending music camp to study piano, vocal, or instrumental.

Souris and Glenwood Chamberof Commerce Bursary

Criteria: A graduating student excelling in the business program and planning to enter a
post-secondary educational institution in a business-related course of study.
Enrollment Criteria: To receive the award the student must prove enrollment at their chosen institution by providing the chamber proof of entrance. The Chamber then will send this institution a cheque in the student's name. The student has until September 15 of the year following his/her graduation to claim this award. (For example, a selected student in June 2008 may not necessarily enroll in a course of study until September 15, 2009. Thus a student wanting to work for a year before continuing their studies is not penalized.)

 

Souris and Glenwood Chamberof Commerce Business Trophy

Criteria: Student receiving fullest or best all round education in the Business Program.
Student must take a minimum of 5 business courses. In the case of a tie in the number of courses, the trophy would be awarded to the student with the highest marks.  Comments:
No monetary value to thisaward. This trophy is called Chamber of Commerce Award of
Excellence in Business.

 

Souris Lionelles ServiceAward

May be either a grad or under grad.  Criteria: Service award to a senior student who
gives freely of his/her time promoting school activities.

 

Souris Lion's Citizen AwardBursary

Criteria: Graduating student continuing in computer science or technology or other technical
science. May or may not be top of the class but having contributed to the school.

 

Souris Valley Advisory &Youth Justice Committee

Criteria: Given to a student pursuing further education in the field of law, criminology, human ecology(social work, family studies, counseling, community development or outreach programs.)

 

Souris and Elgin MarketingClub Scholarship

Criteria:

1. Grade 12 students planning on enrolling in an agricultural course of studies at an

approved post-secondaryinstitution of learning.

2. The person displaying the most potential for a career in the agriculture industry.

3. The student must use the award in the year of acceptance.

4. If there are no qualified candidates in a certain year, the scholarship will not be awarded in that year.One award given to a Souris grad and another to a Hartney grad.

5. Payment of $300 awardwill be done upon presentation of a receipt of tuition fee for an

accredited Agriculturecourse. A certificate will be awarded at Graduation ceremonies.

6. Suggested qualifications include:

       -70% or above average inclass/involvement in community work - ex. 4-H, student council, committee work, Volunteer

        -Farm family background preferred.

        -Enrolment in degree ordiploma programs preferred over college programs.

 

Southwest CattIeman'sAssociation Bursary

Criteria: A graduating student furthering their education in degree or diploma in agriculture or in courses related to agriculture such as vet, Human Ecology, or mechanics. May be either community college or university.

 

Souris Skating Club ProgramAssistant Bursary

Criteria:  Presented to individuals who, as members of the Souris Skating Club, have shown leadership in the club as committed Program Assistants for either CanSkate or CanPower during theirgraduating year.

Souris School EducationAward

Criteria: Presented to a graduating student entering Education. Must posses the qualities to become a good teacher. This should include, but not limited to the following:
leadership, involvement,working with youth, organizational skills.

 

Souris Cooperative DaycareAward - Caring for a Living Award

Criteria: Graduating student enrolled in a post-secondary institute to obtain an early childhood education certificate. Must complete a 4-hour volunteer period. Donated By: Souris Cooperative Daycare
Comments: Applicants must complete an essay describing their volunteer experience. Award will be based on the applicant's volunteer involvement, interaction with the children and the overall presentation of their submitted essay.

 

Souris Legion LadiesAuxiliary Bursary

Criteria: Graduating student who is furthering his/her education in a vocation of his/her choice.  Student must be a relative of a Veteran, Legion Member or Legion Ladies Auxiliary member.  Requirements: Provide a letter of application, typed, stating past experiences at school and in the community. Must identity relationship to a veteran, Legion member or Legion Ladies Auxiliary member. Please identity veteran or legion member.  Confirmation of enrollment in a university or college must be submitted to the
committee.

 

Souris Market GardenScholarship

Criteria: Graduating studentwho has participated in the Market Garden in Souris.


University of Winnipeg Alumni Entrance Scholarship

Criteria: A graduating student with a high academic standing and promise, noteworthy participation in extra curricular activities, leadership qualities and strength of character.

 
 

St. Mary's Catholic Women'sAuxiliary

Criteria: St. Mary'sCatholic Women's Auxiliary Bursary is presented to a deserving graduating student/or students of St. Mary's Parish Family, who is actively practicing their faith and furthering their education.

 

St. Mary's Parish Bursary

Criteria: A graduatingstudent who is a member of St. Mary's Parish and is continuing his/hereducation at a Catholic Institute.

 

Oakland Municipality

Criteria: Must be a resident of Oakland Municipality with highest academic standing.
Must be furthering educationat a post-secondary institute in the fall.

 

Institute of CharteredAccountants Scholarship

Criteria: Graduating studentwho will be continuing on to a business faculty at one of Manitoba'suniversities.

 

Morley Fallis Memorial Bursary

Criteria: It is a MemorialBursary in honor of Morley Fallis to be presented by the B.P.D.

 

Elks Souris Lodge #21.

The criteria of the bursary will be as follows, as each will have a priority over the next.

 
1. Into the field of Medical Technology (including dental, nursing, lab & x-ray)

 
2. Into the field ofEducation.



3. Into the field ofAgriculture.



The Lodge will require a resume stating your intentions and where you will be attending your future education, a list of your current and past activities and an official transcript of marks.
If the graduate fails to further their education, then an alternative graduate will be accepted to receive the bursary.

 

Pipestone SiftonConservation Award

Criteria: Student from Pipestone or Sifton Municipalities. Must be continuing in a field related to agriculture or conservation.

 

Souris B.P.O.Elks HumanitiesAward

Criteria: This award is to be presented to a graduate furthering their studies in post-secondaryeducation. The criteria of the award will be as follows as each will have priority over the next.

 1. Into the field of SocialWork or Day Care.

 
2. Into the field ofJournalism, Music or Dance.

 
The Lodge will require a resume stating your intentions and where you will be attending your future education, a list of your current and past activities and an official transcript of marks of present and past 3 years.

 Comments: Lodge will presenta certificate to the graduate at the graduation ceremonies. The graduate will present the certificate to the Elks Lodge upon proof of acceptance into post-secondary institution to be redeemed to cash. If the graduate fails to further their education. then an alternative graduate would be accented to receive this award.

 

Souris and GlenwoodAgricultural Society Bursary

Criteria:  Any graduating student furthering his/her education in agricultural, human ecology or any agricultural related program.  May be either university or community college entry.  In the event no students are continuing education in the above category, the selectioncommittee may use its own judgment in selecting any other rural graduate whose parents are involved in agriculture. Bursary should be made on the basis of need, desire and academic standing with need and desire being the main criteria.
Comments: This award is in Memory of Agricultural Society Members. The cheque is made out to the Educational Facility that the student is going to attend, and if they choose to wait one year before going, the bursary will still be available.


Audrey Irene Stratton (neeWright) Memorial Scholarship Fund

Criteria: Graduating student attending university with a good academic standing (not necessarily top), with personality characteristic of warmth, friendliness and ability to place others before his/her self.  Financial need should be a consideration.

 

Beresford ElevatorAssociation Bursary


Criteria: A graduating student continuing his/her education. Must be living in the Beresford area.  Preference given to a student from an agriculture background.
Comments: Students must prepare a brief summary or essay about their chosen career, stating why they wish to further their education, why living in the Beresford area has appealed to them and indicate the post-secondary institution, course and date of planned enrollment.



Karen G.  Duthie Certified General Accountant -C.G.A. Manitoba Scholarship

Criteria: Award recipientmust be a graduating high school student, who is amongst amongst his/herclasses' highest academic achiever and who has indicated an interest in an accounting or business career.

Award recipient may go directly into the CGA program of studies or be attending either a university,in the faculty of management or community college, in the business administration program.

Comments:  Karen Duthie will award cash value of$150 to the recipient choice. The Certified General Accountants Association of Manitoba will offer tuition in the amount of $200 towards enrollment in the Certified General Accountants program of studies. This offer is good for 5 years, and the recipient to accompany the application should retain a copy  of the award letter. If the student drops out of the program during the  first year, the bursary must be repaid on a pro rata basis.  If no student is eligible the offer is not valid. Deferred is possible for 1 year subject to registration Student receives one half of the bursary,written to institution, for September, then second half; written to institutionin December.  Students who may have to work for one year before they enter a post-secondary institution can still be eligible for this award.

 

Manitoba Curling FoundationAward

Criteria:  Presented to a student who has made an outstanding contribution to curling in the Westman area.
Comments: Students are responsible for applying themselves.  They have to contact Colin Dunbar. This is awarded on a year to year basis and may not be awarded in a given year.



Margo Araujo MemorialScholarship

Criteria: Presented to a student planning to attend Assiniboine Community College who displays the characteristics of warmth and friendliness.

 
iNet Link Scholarship Award

Criteria: Given to a Grade 11 or 12 student who has successfully completed a web based IIITV course,displayed independent learning skills, demonstrated excellent electronic communication skills with teacher and colleagues taking the same course,demonstrated
computer application skills and/or web based skills, interested in pursuing a career in the technology field must be computer related.

 

Ken and Ruth WilliamsMemorial Scholarship

Criteria: Not necessarilythe top student. Must come from a farming background and be continuing their education in an Agricultural, Environmental Science, Medical or Dental field of study(degree or diploma). Does not have to be going directly in the fall.   Scholarship will be paid upon proof of registration within two years. Ideal candidate will have a hardworking, good-natured, and positive attitude.

 

Westman Communications GroupScholarship

Criteria: Must have applied to and been accepted to, a Manitoba post-secondary institution to pursue studies in a technology focused field. Shall have demonstrated proven academic abilities (with a high school average of 80 or greater for Grade 12). Shall have participated in school and community activities. Have volunteered with a community access channel and reside in a home that subscribes to services from Westman Communications Group will be taken into account for selection of the recipient. Amount: $500 to one student in each of the participating schools that meet the eligibility requirements.

 

Western CommunitiesFoundation Exceptional Achievement Citation and Award

Criteria: Given to a studentwho intends to seek further training or education to become a productive citizen of Canada AND who has overcome adversity (mental/physical/disability),financial hardship, family issues: and or who has displayed outstanding community and/or school spirit as an organizer, participant or volunteer:and/or—who has demonstrated inspirational conduct whether as an act of heroismor leadership in a crisis.

 

Governor-General's BronzeMedal & Rowat Book Donation

Criteria: Based on the total number of credits and overall marks for Grades 9-12.

Criteria: Awarded to the student who best exemplies the work ethic of the theatre.

 
Souris School GeneralProficiency Award

Criteria: An average of the marks achieved in the best five Grade l2 courses. Recognized senior years courses to be considered for averaging must be from the approved school sponsored and department sanctioned listing. Courses sponsored by the division, providing they have department approval, such as distance education alternatives, are eligible, whereas private music options, traditional correspondence courses, school initiated courses and student initiated projectswill not be included in determining the best five courses.


Chown Centennial Scholarship

Criteria: An outstandinggraduating student entering the University of Manitoba who has completed a full high school study program.  Must have an 85% average using criteria as determined by the school.
