NOTES FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Visiting Band
Last Thursday our K-8 students listened to a wonderful Grade 7 & 8 Band from Linden Christian School in Winnipeg. This Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band played extremely well for this age group. Their director, Bev Walker organized a workshop and one concert in Brandon and then they came out to Souris the next day for our concert before heading home. We are very happy that they did!
Deloraine Festival
This past week was the vocal section of the Festival. Congratulations to Kyla Harding, Emily Simon & Grant Jackson who performed their vocal solos.
Celebrating Music
The Minister of Education has again designated April as ìMusic Monthî. I was planning on doing a Variety Concert with K-6 students to showcase music, but April seems to have been filled up with many other events! I will be picking a date to ìCelebrate Musicî but it will be in May instead of April. This concert will also feature our Choir Club and Bad Boys. GREEN WEEK
The Town Beautification Committee will be hosting a Green Week in May with various activities. Green week begins on Saturday, May the 8th at 9:30 a.m. at the cookhouse in the campground. Here, we'll start our spring clean up. Participants will be assigned an area around town where they can pick up litter. At 11:30 everyone will meet back at the cookhouse for a BBQ. Anyone and everyone are invited to participate in the spring clean up. Kids, ask your parents to go and help because after all, you are the ones who will inherit this town: After the clean-up and all week long the TBC will be airing environmental specials on the access channel. On Saturday, May 15th (garage sale day)í the TBC will be selling big black composters really cheap. We'll have our stand set up in the parking lot across from the Bigway.
Composting is a great way to reduce household garbage and turn yucky food leftovers into great soil for your garden. Compost helps plants grow big and strong and delivers vital micronutrients back into the earth.~
Hope to see lots of people out for our first Green Week because looking after the environment is everyone's responsibility.
