Souris School makes a big splash!!!!!
Thank you to all those who brought food items for our local food bank. All the groceries will make a difference to the families in our community that rely on the food bank. Your generosity was overwhelming. We met our goal and three of our teachers ; Mr. Kindle, Mr. Quigley, and Mr. Elder, braved the frigid temperatures to take a Polar Bear Plunge.  Thanks for being such good sports.  It really does make a difference.

BASKETBALL

Varsity Girls
The Varsity Girls Basketball team traveled to the University of Manitoba for tournament action over the weekend.  The girls opened with a loss to a very good Sanford team 53-19.  Danica Swaenepoel led the team with six points in the loss.  In their second game Friday night the girls played outstanding, defeating the defending AA champions from Teulon 63-31.  Sarah White scored 15 points and Mandy Rolfe added 14 for the Sabres.  The girls then played Neepawa in the consolation semifinals of the twelve team tournament and hung on to win a rough, physical affair 23-21.  This put the girls into the consolation final were they faced a very good club out of Glenboro.  The game was tight all the way through until our girls pulled away in the last minute to win 50-41.  Sarah scored a game high 21 points while Brynna Walker added 9 more.  Danica was named player of the game.

The girls improved all weekend long and were a hit with their square dancing routine!  Great job girls.

On Wednesday the Junior Varsity and Varsity girls basketball teams traveled to Vincent Massey for exhibition action.  The JV's opened the night with a thrilling overtime victory 39-36.  Morgan Husband led the Sabres with 16 points while Nicole Harkness added 6 more.  Great start to the season ladies.

In the Varsity game the Sabres hung in with the Vikings for the first half before falling behind and eventually losing 63-35.  Terrific effort from the all!!  Brynna Walker, Danica Swaenepoel, Kelsey Penno and Candace Draper all had six points.

Varsity Boys
The Varsity Boys Basketball team played in Gladstone over the weekend.  The team played very well finishing in third place.  Christian Gohl was outstanding, in game scoring an icredible 55 points!  He was named the tournaments MVP.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team hosted their first home game in a number of years as the team played Killarney.  The guys played very well trailing only by 7 points at the half.  However, Killarney proved to be too deep as they were able pull away in the second en route to a 91-56.  Christian Gohl led the Sabres with 25 points and Brett Miner
added 8.
