Welcome to the grade one classroom website! Grade One students at Melita School attend grade one in room 19 located in the K-6 wing of Melita School.
Grade One is the home of the following special events:
Early Open House - Students unpack supplies and meet the teacher.
Open House - Held in September - A student led tour and lots of student work is displayed.
Grade One students participate in the National School Terry Fox School Run.
"Pilgrim Lunch" - A Thanksgiving Celebration
Remembrance Day service participation - Students recite a poem or sing a song at the school's Remembrance Day service.
"Alphabet Party" - A party to celebrate learning all the letters in the alphabet.
Students participate in a musical for the annual Christmas Concert.
New Year's Party
"The Unbirthday Party" - A Celebration of students' birthdays in grade one. This party is held in June.
Grade One celebrates Valentine's Day with a "Friendship Party".
February 15 is National Flag day.
Grade One participates in daily "I Love to Read " activities as well as the school planned activities in the month of February.
Students will participate in a wellness activities.
A theme story day is planned for March. In the past it has been "Peter Rabbit" Day,
Author celebrations are popular in grade one. Last year, "A Pigeon Party" celebrated Mo Willem's books.
Students pair up with an older student to "buddy read".
Students celebrate the 50th, 100th and 150th day of school.
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated at the "Leprechaun Lunch".
Students will celebrate Earth Day. Each year students help to pick up garbage on the K-4 playground.
Grade one students usually travel to Brandon for a year end field trip.
